The Nukes

Yesterday 25 students from our kura were selected to participate in a ukulele session with a band called The Nukes. They taught us about different chords of the ukulele and where the name of the ukulele came from. From what The Nukes told us the ukulele came from Hawaii and the name meant jumping flea. We played the ukulele together showing our talent to the rest of the school. I enjoyed playing with a different school and coming together to play something cool. Next time I could work on learning more chords for the ukulele and how to use the chords to make a song. But overall the ukulele session was fun and I would love to do it again.

Maths DLO Trebling and Thirding

Last week in Te Ngahere we started creating Math DLO’s. We learnt strategies such as doubling and halving and trebling and thirding. The strategy helped me heaps because I was able to solve difficult multiplication number sentences using the strategy. Creating the DLO was a bit challenging for me because I struggled explaining how the strategy worked and showing it on a slide. Next time I could probably finish the DLO in less than three days because I now know how to explain the strategy, but also keep it simple for the audience to understand.
